NUTTING

Post by German Township »

With all of the problems our Bucs are dealing with, hopefully there is a silver lining. All of the very negative press the entire club is getting, it is 100% justified! Bob Nutting is responsible for everything. His cheapness has caused this once proud franchise to be a joke. The attendance is going to continue to decline, which is great. We all know that he will never increase the budget to get better players. Our only hope is that when the contract with the players expires, the majority of the owners will band together and, hopefully, stay out until the major issue is finally resolved, a salary floor and max. Hopefully for that to happen, Nutting will sell. Let's say a $100,000,000 floor is agreed upon, he is definitely selling. I feel that the game is in trouble. Just look at what ESPN did. No more games after this year. Look at what has happened these past few years with networks that have went bankrupt. One of the wealthiest owners for the Orioles has already stated that the game needs this. I can live without the game forever how long it takes. Remember, it was the players who cancelled, not only the season, after the All Star break, cancelled the World Series, but also caused the loss of one of the best teams at the time, the Montreal Expos, and the city of Montreal, to lose their franchise. Teams see what is happening to players. They are going to the Dodgers, Yankees, and now, the Mets.

I suspect player acquisition is only going to get harder. Chandler was a dual sport athlete. He signed for a nice bonus but what happens after that. He could have been the Clemson (I think it was) quarterback. The NIL money a college athlete can draw makes his bonus and current salary look hardly worth it. I have no idea what the baseball NIL money is like at the baseball schools, but I'd guess it would be pretty good there also.

I hope you are right the game needs change. I hope the owners ban together and only settle as long as a salary floor is established. The game needs a floor with a max, which would change each season according to inflation etc.

I hope that Nutting does not have a plan to continue to PO its fanbase so he can convince MLB to move the team to another city. He is like the devil in disguise!

This losing has gone to far, and I wonder with an off day on Thursday if there will be any changes in the dugout or in the FO. It is not yet the middle of May, and the Pirates season is finished.

maybe I am too cynical, but to me if changes aren't made it just means the entire front office was just blowing smoke about team being better (because of player improvement) and chickens should come home to roost on all who are responsible for this mess of a team. Even if Horwitz and Gonzales had played all season thus far they are not good enough to make much of a difference in the team's record.

A sad part of this team is that it isn't even fun to watch.

The Pirates Front Office has been blowing smoke for at least the past 10 years, no matter who's part of it. When the playoff teams of 2013, '14, and '15 were eliminated quickly, Nutting made up his mind right then and there to take no more risks. The costs of doing so outweighed the benefits and he's lived by that belief ever since. He has no intention of doing anything much more than what he's been doing since the end of the 2015 season. What we've seen since then is what we'll get for as long as he and his family own the Pittsburgh Pirates.

What part of this is not true ?

The Pirates , no doubt, have the worst lineup , the worst manager , the worst player development and the worst ownership in all of baseball.

Gee, and all this time we were told that the owner gave his management all the resources he could, and they worked all offseason, to build a championship club.

Well ... at least we can now remove "the worst manager" from the above list.
