Great post Wilbur, got a good laugh out of that once I realized the connection

Is it true that Boston traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees for Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback and Bobby Hill?

  You mean Jason Bay? Smiley

Bay is on a pace to hit 6 HRs this year for the Mets. Fenway was perfect for him. But I'm sure the NY fans and press will be patient and understanding.

Fenway was perfect and the Mets' new park is probably just the opposite.  I'm sure he'll hit a lot more than six, but he probably won't hit 30, maybe not near that many.

Freddy Sanchez started facing live pitching in extended spring training last week, and is supposedly looking at making his season debut next Tuesday if all goes well.  Giants fans remain skeptical.

Yes, I'm sure he'll top 6 HRs. But it sure is a slow start for him. I always get a kick out of those early season "on a pace" comments in the press. Which always makes me wonder if a guy who homers on opening day is on a pace to hit 162 HRs. Couldn't resist using it on Bay. I didn't understand his decision to leave Boston. The Red Sox would have made him rich(er), but the Mets offered more, apparently. Some guys never get enough. And sometimes regret it later.

To take this way off track, when Ruth hit 60 in 1927, he had 36 on August 15, and then exploded with 24 in the last 7 weeks or so.  What that meant was that every year anyone was on pace for 50 by the middle of August, he was ahead of Ruth's pace to that point, and so every couple of years there would be stories about someone being 10 games ahead of Ruth's pace. Maris eventually blew past the Babe with a similar binge in May-July, 1961.

Maris actually hit 61 homers in the last 154 games of 1961.  Commissioner Frick announced at one point that his asterisk would be applied if Maris or Mantle did not hit homer number 61 by the 154th game of the season.  It doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone that the additional games might have been added at the front of the season.

Yes, but if you also gave Ruth an extra 8 games in the beginning of his 1927 season, he may have added a few more.

Bay always starts slow and then has that ten day stretch when he goes bananas and wins a player of the week and that usually kickstarts him for the year.

McLouth is still struggling. I have read that he's going a rough divorce which could explain a lot. That did Chipper in a couple of seasons ago.

Is Charlie Morton married?  If so, we could add that one to the excuse list posted about him.

McLouth is married?  I thought he and Doumit were the dynamic duo at the bars?

Yeah, I don't think he was married.  A certain KDKA news anchor was very upset last year when Mark Madden revealed that she and McLouth were an item on his show.  Of course knowing pro athletes there's always the chance he had a wife as well, but I don't think so.

Which one?  I don't live in the 'burgh so I wasn't privy to the rumor.

Alison Morris

Hmm...interesting.  I was looking at KDKA's site and thought maybe it would be Stephanie Watson, but didn't see Alison.

Matt Capps was named MLB delivery man of the month for his 12 for 12 save performance in April. Capps was quoted as saying " Its an honor to win this award after what I went thru in the offseason,I have my great teammates to thank for it who played some splendid defense behind me. To be recognized as the best delivery man shows my lack of hard work paid off,I mean even in Washington alone they have some great delivery men,Jimmy from the pizzeria who sneaks into the bullpen just to deliver me two pizzas,Bobby from the sub shack who gets the subs here so quick the bread on the 3rd sub I eat still isnt soggy from all the oil and vinegar, and who can forget old man Joe from the bbq joint up the street, ribs that just fall off the bone and theyre open late enough that I get my 3rd dinner in by 2am so I can be up and not exercising by noon"

Ian Snell is in the bullpen for the Mariners now.  I'm sure that will work out well.
