Aure was a 15th-round pick in 2008 out of North Pole High in Alaska, making him the third-highest drafted player ever out of an Alaska high school. He pitched just 33 innings as a pro the last two seasons.

I was hoping a guy from North Pole would go somewhere.  Considering how little he pitched, I'd guess he was having trouble staying healthy.

Is it possible we had too much pitching? Smiley

Its too bad he never got a chance to go anywhere,to give up on a lefty pitcher at age 20 must really mean hes a lost cause. Judging by the timing of the release I'm willing to bet he either didnt come to camp or came to camp a mess from a pitching standpoint

There go all the potential Aure-rora Borealis tie-ins.

Maybe he refused to wear his pants and socks the right way.

I think I've found him. RIP Chris!

But as for being a safe pick, I don't think there is such a thing. When someone gets to the big leagues and performs, then I'll say he's a safe pick. Until that happens, there's no such thing. -Bruce Seid- Brewers Director of Scouting

I'm sorry to see that it didn't work out with Aure.  When the Bucs drafted Aure and Jarek Cunningham (who played his high school ball in Spokane) in June '08, I was hoping the draft choices meant that they were developing a keen eye for northern tier talent.

Having lived in the north country for 16 years in the past, I would suggest that he thought it was safe to return home now that Palin is spending more time in the lower 48 than in Alaska.

This could be a reason but I saw him pitch a couple of bullpens last year in ST and he had nothing.  I blew his performance off because he had just come back from being shut down for a week so I thought he was rusty.  But now I think maybe a lack of talent might had have more to do with him being released than anything.

The bottom of the 2008 draft hasnt been a good place to be picked for most of those guys. Aure at 15th round is the highest player gone from it,but Allen Ponder,AJ Fagan,Cole White,Chris Simmons,Mark Carver,Owen Brolsma and Matt Payne are all gone as well.

Where Did you get this information. I do not remember any of these releases. I looked at the rosters from our minor leagues. It does seem they were all released.

White was on the ST roster last year but wasn't in camp.  I asked about him....a trainer said he was on military duty.  Simmons wasn't on the roster and also wasn't in camp.  Neither played last year.  I don't know their current status.
