For all the talk of prospects here, I don't recall ever talking about the future, as in future lineups/rotations going forward.

That said, just for fun, what would your 2013 Pirates lineup/rotation look like?

Note: I thought '13 would be a good year because most, if not all, of the Bradenton and even some other lower-level guys could be in Pittsburgh/knocking on the door by then.

A couple other things:

- I also put the Pirates' 2010 first rounder in the mix; I'm not sure if the 2011 top pick would be ready by Opening Day 2013.
- Feel free to include any players eligible for free agency between 2010-11 offseasons, and any high-round picks you think the Pirates could take in this summer's draft.
- I didn't include bench players or bullpens ... that's just too much work.

Here's mine:

1.) Tabata - RF
2.) Robinson Cano - 2B (2012 FA ... why not? Smiley)
3.) McCutchen - LF
4.) Alvarez - 1B
5.) LaRoche - 3B
6.) Sanchez - C
7.) Marte - CF
8.) D'anuard - SS

* Not huge overall pop, but there's a likely 30-plus HR guy and six players (excluding Chase) capable of 15 or more HR/season.

Rotation
1.) Morton (Again, we're dreaming here)
2.) Pomeranz
3.) Morris
4.) Owens
5.) Lincoln

* I'm guessing Duke and Maholm are dealt before they become free agents and a few of the current high schoolers, if healthy, are moving up the system by this time. I'd knock Owens or Lincoln out if the Pirates draft in the top 5-10 picks in 2011 draft and take a college guy.

How about you? What's your team look like?

I leave stuff like this up to the experts, like Neal Huntington.

Here's my 2013 lineup:

RF Tabata
2B Holt (reminds me of Brian Roberts)
CF Cutch
1B Pedro
3B LaRoche (with his fat contract extension)
C TONY!
LF Marte (man can fly)
SS D'Arnaud

2013 Rotation:

ACE: Morton (if he ever gets it together)
2: Pomeranz
3: Lincoln
4: Owens
5: Morris

Bullpen: Meek, Moskos, Uvideo, Machi, few veterans

Looking at that lineup, we really need to add some power bats and some power arms.

A few comments/questions:

-- What's a Pomeranz?

-- I would have Veal in there instead of Owens

-- Why isn't Ohlendorf in there - I think we would still have control over him in '13 & '14, right?  With his command and intelligence, I could see him becoming a poor man's Maddux

-- Of course, other guys like Locke could allow us to deal Ohlendorf for the power hitting, gold glove SS we need (Woobie said we were dreaming)

-- When Marte comes up, he will push Cutch over to LF -- the guy is a better fielder and has THE strongest arm Pittsburgh has seen since the Cobra (Slyke was good, Guillen had a cannon, but wasn't always accurate -- Marte can flat out GUN the ball).  This will also allow Cutch to do what Barry did when Slyke pushed him over to LF to become the HR king of baseball (ok, maybe not that last part).

-- And the real 2013 lineup will look completely different than any of these, even though I agree with 80% - 90% of what has been suggested so far!

Tabata - RF
Laroche - 2B
McCutch - CF
GFJ - RF
Derrek Lee - 1B
Alvarez - 3B
Sanchez - C
D'Arnaud - SS

Cliff Lee #1 (you said dream)
Morton #2
Maholm #3
Ohlendorf #4
Locke/Veal/Morris #5

There area lot of unknowns with the #4-#5 starters, and I look at many of them being interchangeable.

Even with Lee and Lee making $35mm we should be able to afford this team in 2013.

I like the way your thinking, but Derrek Lee?  They guy will be 37 ore 38 by then.  I think the bucs should be able to find a free agent or trade for a 1B with some pop that is not so far over the hill.  Cliff Lee I like but I don't think Maholm will be around then.  He and Duke can be used to trade for that bat at 1B.  Don't know who will be available at this point.

I know that Lee will be old, but he is the best fit I could think of.  Besides, the guy is in great shape, is still a top shelf 1B and is a free agent after this season. Its not like he is Dye, Blalock or Thome.   I wouldn't want to sign him for more than 3 years.  If we could get a player of his quality by trading Duke I would be all for it, but I can't see that happening.  (For that matter I can't see Lee being willing to sign here).

I'm thinking one of Maholm or Duke will get an extension beyond their current contract.  Since Maholm is the better of the two, I picked him.
